Question 28: Why does each state have two senators?
Official answers (any one counts)
USCIS accepts any of these answers. If the question asks for more than one, give as many as it asks.
- Equal representation (for small states)
- The Great Compromise (Connecticut Compromise)
Grandpa explains
So small states count the same as big ones in the Senate. It was agreed in the Great Compromise of 1787.
Careful: these are NOT the answer
These are the common mix-ups. The app uses them as traps so you practice.
- Because big states pay more taxes
- Because the President decides it
- So big states have more power
